Another great year, however there are a few problems facing electronic companies, there are new regulations the EEC has seen fit to lumber us with yet again, the latest and most costly is the RoHS standard, this standard has been adopted in Europe and the USA and it restricts the use of dangerous chemicals and metals such as lead etc in all products. This means that all electronic components have had to be redesigned, the old solder (lead-based) has now been replaced with the less dangerous but more difficult to work with tin solder and all components have had to be upgraded to RoHS specification. This has been a great excuse for all our manufacturing companies to bump their prices up by 10 – 15% to help them with their re tooling plants with new equipment. Some of these costs are without doubt justified. So as usual the people who bear the brunt of all these new regulations are the customers, so expect some price rises in the new catalogue.

I am a great believer in telling the customer the good and any bad things about products and attempting to make you as well informed as possible; this stops me getting it in the neck if a customer makes a mistake, or over-assumes something.
